Tangible Heritage Workshops Recap

The Tangible Heritage Workshops are a series of programmes designed to create public awareness on the conservation of heritage buildings and the protection of the Outstanding Universal Values (OUVs) for the preservation of George Town as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Organised by George Town World Heritage Incorporated, this series of workshops aims to enhance the knowledge and skills of all levels of the public involved directly or indirectly in the development and management of George Town as a World Heritage Site. The programme also aims to ensure the importance of conservation of heritage buildings can be understood by all stakeholders of George Town, in order to effectively facilitate any planning, development, management, monitoring and enforcement efforts.

Heritage and Conservation Workshop 2018

This session covers the basics of restoration, repair and traditional materials used in heritage building, especially in the Historic City of George Town. It covers the 6 traditional shophouse building typologies. It features case studies of adaptive guidelines. This workshop will be conducted in both English and Malay.

The objective of this workshop is to provide a better understanding to participants on the methods of management and care for heritage buildings. This workshop is the recommended primary platform to learn about heritage buildings conservation, as is a pre-requirement for further advanced Heritage and Conservation Workshops organised by George Town World Heritage Incorporated.

The Heritage and Conservation Workshop 2018 has been conducted successfully from 7 to 9 March 2018. Participants who have joined this workshop can now proceed to the Heritage and Conservation Workshop 2018: Advanced Level. More details below.

Heritage Conservation Workshop 2018: Advanced Level

Heritage and Conservation Workshop 2018: Advanced Level is part of series of workshops conducted by George Town World Heritage Incorporated to give better understanding on restoration, repair and maintenance of heritage buildings. This 2 – day workshop will focus on conservation of project management.

This 2-day workshop is a good step in understanding the Roles and Responsibilities of Project Manager and Consultants in Conservation Project. Participants will learn about the process before, during and the after the Conservation Project.

Pre-requisite:
Open to those who have attended Heritage and Conservation Workshop (Introduction and Intermediate) organized by George Town World Heritage Incorporated, especially who was involved as a Project Manager and Consultants

Heritage Impact Assessment Workshop

Heritage Impact Assessment (HIA) is a report of the surrounding impact on the proposed development, restoration or renovation site. It was used to explain to the Technical Review Panel the condition of the proposed site and helping Technical Review Panel members to questions, giving instruction and guidance to consultant on what should be consider in the context of safeguarding a heritage site.

In October 2017, George Town World Heritage Incorporated has conducted a workshop on the Heritage Impact Assessment which was attended by participants from the government agencies, building professionals from the private property industry and property owners. The feedback from this workshop was positive and it was recommended that this workshop were to be continued to trains more people on Heritage Impact Assessment which ware urgently required.

Who Should Attend:
1. Professionals involved in the preparation of Heritage Impact Assessment; e.g: architect, conservator, consultants, planner
2. The government officer whose involved in the process of submission of Heritage Impact Assessment.

Workshop Highlights:
This workshop is a fundamental introduction to the Heritage Impact Assessment Report. Participants will be divided into groups and will discuss the impact of a development on the world heritage site. The participant will learn hands on methods to prepare Heritage Impact Assessment reports.
