Community-Based Intangible Cultural Heritage Inventorying in George Town (Malaysia): Project Report and Featured Inventory Entries Now Available for Download

The Community-Based Intangible Cultural Heritage Inventorying in George Town (Malaysia): Project Report and Featured Inventory Entries, an outcome from the pilot project in George Town focused on rituals and festive events, is now available to download or read online.

George Town was among three pilot cities selected by UNESCO Culture Sector to participate in the pilot project on ‘Intangible Heritage and Creativity for Sustainable Cities: Community-Based Inventorying of Intangible Cultural Heritage in Urban Contexts’.

The project was initiated by UNESCO, while the inventory process was facilitated by George Town World Heritage Incorporated with commitment from over 40 local facilitators representing 23 community groups in George Town in 2019.

This report is among the outputs of the pilot project, in which we document our activities, processes and methodologies. We have also featured several inventory entries from the inventorying on rituals and festive events conducted by the George Town communities.

We hope this report will empower local communities to impart their system of documenting intangible cultural heritage elements, and share the richness of Malaysian culture to the world.
