The GTWHI Internship Programme is a learning opportunity for students and recent graduates to learn about GTWHI’s mandate, programmes and processes as well as enhance their academic and technical knowledge through practical assignments.
Objectives
- To provide practical onsite training on World Heritage Site Management.
- To cultivate a new generation of heritage professionals.
- To promote understanding of GTWHI’s function as a World Heritage Site Manager.
Eligibility
- Age: Be at least 21 years old.
- Academic qualifications:
At the time of your application to the internship programme:
- You are currently enrolled in a graduate programme (Master’s degree, PhD, or equivalent, second university degree or higher).
- You have recently graduated with a Master’s degree or PhD (or second degree as defined above), 6 months prior to the start of the internship.
Please note that candidates who have completed their full-time university studies but are not enrolled in a graduate programme are not eligible to apply.
3) Language Proficiency: You should have an excellent command, both written and spoken of English. Working knowledge of Malay, Tamil or Mandarin is an asset.
4) Computer Skills: You must have an excellent knowledge of computer systems and office-related software.
5) Team Player: You should be able to work well in a team and adapt to a multicultural and highly demanding working environment.
6) Communication Skills: You should possess strong interpersonal and communication skills.

About the Programme
- Four (4) interns will be accepted every quarter. Malaysians will be given priority.
- Duration: The minimum duration of an internship is three (3) months, and the maximum duration is six (6) months. Application will be open from 1 April 2025 and close by the 31 May 2025.
- Working space: The selected interns will be granted a working space at GTWHI and receive training on Site Management activities and working closely with the local community.
- Monthly allowance: A monthly allowance of Ringgit Malaysia Nine Hundred Only (RM900.00) will be provided to the qualified interns.
- Visa: You should be responsible for obtaining any necessary visas.
- Travel: You must arrange and finance your travel to and from George Town, Penang, Malaysia.
- Accommodation: You must arrange and finance your accommodation.
- Medical insurance: You must show proof of comprehensive health insurance valid in Malaysia for the entire period of the internship.
- Medical certificate: You must provide a medical certificate indicating you are fit to work at least two weeks before the beginning of the internship. This Medical Certificate should be issued by a qualified medical practitioner and you should NOT submit any of your medical records which are confidential (Results of tests, X-ray films etc.).
- Supporting Documents: Before the beginning of your internship, you must provide your ID/Certificate of Enrolment (if you have just recently graduated).
- Leave: Interns are entitled to 2.5 days of leave per month during their internship.
- Remuneration: GTWHI will not remunerate interns. There is no compensation, financial or otherwise for internship assignments otherwise mentioned in this document.
- This internship shall not be treated as a guarantee of any employment commitments with GTWHI.
Application
- Fill in the Application Form from 1 April 2025 to 31 May 2025.
- The Programme Selection Committee will contact the shortlisted candidates for an interview.
- Successful candidates will be notified via email.
Termination
The Management reserves the right to terminate the programme at any time if the intern fails to follow the job requirements, perform their duties, or carry out the instructions given.
