Organised in collaboration with UNESCO Office Jakarta, the programme aims to protect the George Town UNESCO World Heritage Site from fire hazards, improve fire protection measures, and elevate the communities\u2019 resilience during fire emergencies. It also seeks to raise awareness on pragmatic steps to protect cultural heritage from disasters.<\/p>\n

Successful applications will each receive a fire extinguisher and smoke detector to be installed at their heritage premises, and undergo firefighting training conducted by the Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia.<\/p>\n

The first phase was successfully launched on 27 April 2019, with 50 participants.<\/p>\n

Owners, residents and business operators of premises in the George Town UNESCO World Heritage Site can apply for the programme online at http:\/\/bit.ly\/2ZZYd1E<\/a> before 31 October 2019.<\/p>\n
