ABOUT ME
Flora Choo was born and bred on Penang Island, and is the Resource Centre Coordinator for George Town World Heritage Incorporated, which she joined in March 2018. She maintains and keeps the library collection organised to enable researchers to easily retrieve articles and materials for their research. Flora did her primary school education at the Northam Road Girls’ School and secondary school education at the Methodist Girls’ School. After completing her Form Five studies and obtaining the Malaysian Certificate of Education, she worked as a temporary clerk at the state election office in Bangunan Tuanku Syed Putra in Lebuh Downing for several years. In 1972, Flora started work as a library assistant with the Penang Library (from its location at the Supreme Court building in Lebuh Farquhar before it was moved to Dewan Sri Pinang and ultimately Seberang Jaya) until her retirement in 2006. She however continued to work at the library for another two years on a contract basis. Still going strong in her librarianship career, Flora has also been a librarian at Penang Institute’s Resource Centre since 2010.
I am a knowledgeable Site Manager because of my many years in librarianship which have given me a deep appreciation for the value of knowledge and the stories behind every collection. I enjoy helping researchers, visitors, and anyone who walks in to find the information and resources they need. To me, the Resource Centre is not just a place to keep books and materials, it is a place where people can discover, learn, and share. I am always happy to lend a helping hand and share what I know, so that others can appreciate more on George Town’s rich history and heritage.
