Interestingly, Carnavon Street is also known as "Bookstore Street" by locals. Through the years, many bookstores on Carnarvon Street have ceased operations, but Van Hin Book Co. has survived until this day. When Van Hin first opened its doors in 1946, it was located at Cintra Street. In the 1960s, they moved to Carnarvon Street and began the process of transformation. Van Hin evolved by transitioning from a typical bookseller to a business specialising in Chinese calligraphy and painting.
