Free Traditional Opera Performance In Penang

The award-winning Taiwanese opera troupe Tang Mei Yun Taiwanese Opera Company will return with a traditional opera performance in Penang this July in conjunction with George Town Heritage Celebrations 2019, as invited by George Town World Heritage Incorporated.
The troupe, with renowned Taiwanese opera performer Tang Mei Yun as the art director, will perform the famous Chinese legend ‘The Story of the White Serpent’ on Monday, 8 July 2019 at The Majestic Theatre in 31, Jalan Phee Choon, George Town. There will be two shows, at 3pm and 8pm. Entrance is free to the public but only with ticket admission.
The performance tells the story of a white snake which transforms into a beautiful woman named Bai Su-zhen, who falls in love with a man named Xu Xian. After marriage, Xu Xian dies from fear when he discovers his wife’s original form. Bai Su-zhen then risks her life to steal a magic herb to bring her husband back to life.
The public may bring along their MyKad and redeem the free tickets at the George Town World Heritage Incorporated office in No. 116 & 118, Lebuh Acheh, George Town from Tuesday, 25 June 2019 onwards, on weekdays from 9am to 4pm. Each MyKad is entitled to receive two free tickets, on a first come, first served basis.
The office will also be open on Sunday, 30 June 2019 from 9am to 12 noon for the collection of tickets. For those staying outside of Penang, ticket reservation can be made via phone with Ms Ng Boon Nee (04-261 6606 ext. 224) on weekdays from 9am to 4pm. Only a maximum of two tickets can be reserved for phone reservations. The telephone reserved tickets are to be collected on 8 July 2019 at The Majestic Theatre at 1.30pm before the first show, and at 6.30pm before the second show.
