The troupe was formed consisting of former colleagues and sisters of Madam Teh. They have 8 members including Madam Teh, who is also the troupe leader. Madam Teh has been passionate about opera since she was a little girl. In fact, she joined numerous opera troupes with Madam Teh Saw Hong, Madam Teh Saw Hoon and Madam Teh Saw Yan from the tender age of 10. She was a member of Xiao Kee Lin Hokkien Opera Troupe for 10 years. After she got married and had children, she temporarily stopped performing with the troupe until her children were able to look after themselves. She then continued to be a part of the troupe and performed in opera shows around Penang. After Xiao Kee Lin Hokkien Opera Troupe was disbanded, Madam Teh founded Keat Hiang Hokien Glove Puppet Troupe with the support from her husband. The troupe mainly performs around George Town, Balik Pulau, Relau and Butterworth. According to Madam Teh, when they are invited to perform for temples, they will usually pray to the deities that are enshrined at the temple, which will then be followed by the divination blocks ritual to choose the play that would be performed. Mr Ooi Lay Peng, originally from Hokkien, China, founded Jin Lan Ge, and when the troupe was passed down to his son, Mr Ooi Ah Goh, the name was changed to Ming Feng Ge. Madam Ooi Siew Kim, the daughter of Mr Ooi Ah Goh, later took over the company, which was then taken over by her sister, Madam Ooi See Han, and the troupe's name was changed to Beng Geok Hong. They have been using the same glove puppets, musical instruments, and equipment for two generations. Beng Geok Hong's members are mostly in their 60s and 70s, and most of them have been in the industry since they were young, therefore they are able to play a variety of characters and musical instruments even without a script or musical score. The troupe is made up of four members who are skilled in manipulating glove puppets, singing, playing drums, Suona (Chinese Trumpet), and gongs. Beng Geok Hong is often invited to perform not only in Penang, but also in Kedah, Perak, and other states in the country. They are generally asked to perform glove puppets for prayer ceremonies that last for a few days during the lunar calendar's second, seventh, and ninth month. Aunty Kiao has a notebook in which she writes down the stories that have been performed for each client, to ensure that they do not repeat the same stories in the future. The drummers and puppeteers are in sync and they know when to start and stop a performance without verbal instructions from the troupe leader.
